Benedictine University is a private life sciences university with campuses located in Illinois and Arizona. Comprised of 35 buildings and over 2.5M ft2 of office, classroom, laboratory, athletic, and multipurpose facilities situated on 145 acres.

Experience & Responsibilities

  • Served as a senior member of the President’s Cabinet, collaborating closely with the Board of Trustees, President, and executive leadership to conceptualize and implement short- and long-term strategic plans, roadmaps, service levels, and projects for the University.
  • Set the strategic direction for the operations of the University for the Illinois and Arizona campuses, comprised of 35 buildings with 2 million maintainable square feet of office, classroom, laboratory, athletic, and multipurpose facilities situated on over more than 145 acres.
  • Managed the operations division, including departments of information technology, dining and catering services, retail operations, facilities management, planning and construction, administration, and operation services; guided over 150 staff.
  • Annually established, administered, and forecasted the division operating budget of $15M while guaranteeing fiscal responsibility and strategic spending.
  • Oversaw the design, construction, project management, estimating, budgeting, and financial services for all capital projects.
  • Maintained involvement in optimizing University customer support by ensuring the standardization of division systems, operation procedures, and policies.

Director, Facilities Management, Planning & Construction | 2001-2017

  • Directed the Facilities team, including engineering and construction services. 
  • Administered the annual $10M operating and $5M capital budgets, including monthly accruals, variances, and forecasting.
  • Oversaw $500M+ capital development, including new construction, renovations, and adaptive reuse projects. Led the professional design and construction teams, responsible for budget and financial management.
  • Led the design and construction of a $50M award winning 125,000 ft2 instruction facility, accommodating teaching classrooms, offices, 600-seat auditorium, state-of-the-art financial stock trading lab, licensed Starbucks café, and an adjacent $6M 5-level parking structure.
  • Headed the expansion of the university’s reach to the United States southwest. Directed the $10M, 70,000 ft2 adaptive reuse of the Mesa Arizona historic Southside Hospital to become an award-winning learning and operational hub for the university.

Headquartered in suburban Chicago, Illinois and offices in Washington, D.C., the American Academy of Pediatrics is the largest professional association of pediatricians in the United States.

Experience & Responsibilities

  • Led the division of Operations and Facilities, directed the strategic reform of the operations budget, optimized the financial management approach to align resources with identified division and overall academy goals.
  • Key leader in construction of the Academy’s new $50 million, 183,000-square-foot member centric professional office headquarters, including a successful phased relocation of all 600-professional staff, ensuring continuous operations.
  • Lead the design and implementation of a multiple cloud-based operating and management systems including a mechanical building administration system, an on-demand work order application, security surveillance and access controls, interactive digital wayfinding and signage, point of sale software, and web-to-print digital storefront.
  • Restructured the Academy’s print media production business unit, advancing production equipment and expanded key capabilities and service offerings.
  • Initiated an Emergency Response Management Team, including introducing life safety training and development of critical policies, procedures, and standards.
